The issue of leg ulcers is very extensive and clearly interdisciplinary. Early diagnosis with a precise determination of etiology is essential
for successful treatment. The treatment of chronic lower limb wounds, including leg ulcers, should be comprehensive and tailored to the
individual while using modern dressing techniques. Also suitable are old methods made new (larval therapy) and, when indicated, plastic
surgical procedures that may be used to accelerate the healing of skin defects while improving the quality of life of patients with a good costeffectiveness.
The present paper provides an overview of the therapeutic options and their specific features from the perspective of a plastic
surgeon. The information is particularly intended for specialists in nonsurgical branches who take care of patients with leg ulcers.
