News in the diagnosis and treatment of vitiligo

Currently, there is no satisfactory method of vitiligo treatment; however, numerous clinical and research trials yield knowledge on aetiopathogenesis
that contributes to developing therapeutic strategies. The mainstay of comprehensive treatment is patient examination
and ruling out comorbid autoimmune and endocrine conditions, frequently found in vitiligo. Treatment with topical immunomodulators
in combination with 311 nm UVB phototherapy or 308 nm excimer laser commonly results in a satisfactory therapeutic outcome. Surgical
methods are also applicable. Patient education, photoprotection by depigmentation and supportive psychotherapy are all essential.
