Seborrhoeic dermatitis in infancy

MUDr. Štěpánka Čapková
Dermatologické oddělení pro děti, FN v Motole, Praha

The first part of the article deals with the aetiopathogenesis of common infantile dermatitis as well as provides some new information. Also discussed is the clinical presentation of the disease in infancy, with major emphasis being placed on differential diagnosis and description of the clinical presentation of those childhood skin conditions that can be mistakenly diagnosed instead of seborrhoeic dermatitis (SD). Based on her long-lasting practice, the author recommends some basic therapeutic approaches that can be utilized by both paediatricians and dermatologists.

Keywords: aetiopathogenesis, yeasts of the genus Malassezia, clinical presentation, differential diagnosis, treatment.
