With an increasing number of travellers to the risk areas of tropics and subtropics, it is likely that imported diseases will be encountered
by physicians from a variety of specialities in the Czech Republic. A physician’s confrontation with the skin manifestations in question
is possible in immigrants and other foreigners coming to the country. Various skin manifestations are within the standard spectrum
of clinical signs in infectious pathological conditions and at least basic skills of differential diagnosis should be components of each
physician’s expertise. The diagnostic process in imported conditions must not only be based on clinical symptomatology, but also must
include, in addition to the patient’s past history, a thorough epidemiological and travel history. Indeed, accurate geographic, climatic
or even current meteorological factors may be of essential importance in establishing a correct diagnosis.
